RTSP over HTTP can help when a network, firewall or recorder environment handles HTTP transport more reliably than standard RTSP transport.

RTSP over HTTP is configured together with ITVDesk network and service settings.

When to use RTSP over HTTP

  • The VMS/NVR supports RTSP over HTTP.
  • Standard RTSP ports are blocked or restricted.
  • The network is easier to route through HTTP-based transport.
  • A proxy or firewall policy requires HTTP-style access.

Security note

  • RTSP over HTTP is not the same as encryption.
  • For encryption, use HTTPS/ONVIF over TLS, RTSPS, SRTP or SRT where supported.
  • Keep authentication enabled unless the network is fully controlled.

Testing

  • Change the setting in ITVDesk.
  • Update the VMS/NVR stream profile.
  • Test live view and recording playback.
