Frequently Asked Question

Capture system audio / Stereo Mix on Windows
Last Updated 22 days ago

On Windows, system audio can be captured through Stereo Mix or a virtual audio driver when the sound card and driver expose that input. This is useful when the stream should include application sounds or operator audio context.

ITVDesk audio settings for Windows audio capture
Choose the Windows audio input that represents microphone, Stereo Mix or a virtual audio device.

Windows checklist

  • Open Windows sound settings and check whether Stereo Mix is available.
  • Enable the input if Windows has disabled it.
  • Select Stereo Mix or the virtual audio device in ITVDesk.
  • Start the stream and test audio in the target VMS/NVR recording.

If Stereo Mix is missing

  • Update or install the audio driver from the PC or sound-card vendor.
  • Use a supported virtual audio device if the hardware driver does not provide Stereo Mix.
  • Use microphone or another capture input as a fallback.

Production note

  • Always test recorded playback, because some VMS/NVR systems show live audio but require separate settings for recorded audio.
