Frequently Asked Question
Capture system audio / Stereo Mix on Windows
Last Updated 22 days ago
On Windows, system audio can be captured through Stereo Mix or a virtual audio driver when the sound card and driver expose that input. This is useful when the stream should include application sounds or operator audio context.

Windows checklist
- Open Windows sound settings and check whether Stereo Mix is available.
- Enable the input if Windows has disabled it.
- Select Stereo Mix or the virtual audio device in ITVDesk.
- Start the stream and test audio in the target VMS/NVR recording.
If Stereo Mix is missing
- Update or install the audio driver from the PC or sound-card vendor.
- Use a supported virtual audio device if the hardware driver does not provide Stereo Mix.
- Use microphone or another capture input as a fallback.
Production note
- Always test recorded playback, because some VMS/NVR systems show live audio but require separate settings for recorded audio.
